Audit & Accounting Services

Audits, reviews, and financial statement services for non-profits, benefit plans, construction, and small business.

Financial statements under review with a magnifying glass during an audit

Overview

No two organizations carry the same reporting obligations, so we scope every engagement to the standard you actually have to meet — whether that is a funder requirement, a Department of Labor filing, a bonding company, or a board that simply wants assurance the numbers are right.

Our firm is licensed as a peer review firm with the Ohio Accountancy Board, and our most recent System Review received a peer review rating of pass. That external check is part of how we hold engagement quality steady from one year to the next.

Questions we're asked

Audit & Accounting Services — frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an audit, a review, and a compilation?

An audit provides the highest level of assurance and involves testing, confirmations, and an opinion on the financial statements. A review is analytical and inquiry-based, giving limited assurance. A compilation presents management's figures in financial statement format with no assurance. Which one you need is usually dictated by a lender, grantor, or regulation.

When does a 401(k) plan need an audit?

Generally when the plan reaches 100 or more participants with account balances at the start of the plan year, though counting rules and the 80–120 participant transition rule can change the answer. We review the participant count with you before Form 5500 season so there are no late surprises.

How far in advance should we schedule?

For calendar-year organizations, most clients schedule fieldwork three to six months ahead. Retirement plan audits cluster ahead of the Form 5500 deadline, so earlier scheduling gives you more choice of dates.

Do you audit organizations that receive federal funding?

We regularly serve non-profit organizations with grant and contract compliance requirements. Bring your award letters to the planning meeting so we can scope the engagement to the compliance obligations attached to those funds.
